Surface Bioengineering of Gold Nanorods
The optical properties of gold nanorods vary as a function of aspect ratio, with tunable extinction in the visible and near-infrared. These optical properties enable fascinating biomedical applications in sensing, imaging, and photothermal therapy.
A necessary precondition for successful application is the development of biocompatible surface chemistry. In this talk I will summarize how the surface chemistry of gold nanorods influences protein adsorption and conformation ; interactions with living cells ; and transport in soil and in an aquatic ecosystem.
